I tried the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter and why you need one too.

By our senior writer: Madison Taylor

Today is a exciting day for me because I get to review the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter! I am long time fashion writer, blogger and reviewer Madison Taylor and you might know me from some of my other reviews. I've written for example about the Women's Woven Tie Dye Dress With Embroidery, Lightweight Beach Coverup, Boho Sundress, Medium/Large, Turquoise by Adidas and the Speedo Elastomeric Solid Silicone Swim Cap, Adult One Size - Pink by Speedo or maybe you have heard of the editorial piece I did on the The North Face Women's Apex Bionic 2 Jacket - Galaxy Purple - M. Anyway, I have quite a lot experience trying out fashion and recommending only the best to my readers. Therefore I was really happy when this product came on my path.

I am really happy to finally be reviewing the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter and writing1 this review for you guys for I've been using LifeStraw products for over 8 years now and I was really excited when I found out they came out with the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter. Of course I looked where I can get it the cheapest, and I always find it on this website. This time it was the deal from Walmart (The deal can be bought here.) and I saw it was the best deal on the internet. So I didn't think twice and and ordered it there. Luckily for me at Walmart they had same day delivery and free shipping so I didn't have to wait long for my package to arive. When it did, I couldn't wait to open it and finally see my brand spanking new LifeStraw Personal Water Filter. I immediately saw it had totally been worth the wait. On the chance of sounding quite a bit biassed being a longtime LifeStraw fan, this product really crushes its competitors, which you can feel immediately when opening the package. I feel like I know enough about the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter to write this review after testing it for a couple of days now. So keep reading and I will show you why I am so happy with my new LifeStraw Personal Water Filter.

Best LifeStraw Personal Water Filter deal

When reviewing fashion I usually begin with a summary, then a compact list of the pros and cons of the product after which you can find the rating and my conclusion and resources. So as you can read in the intro, I am really amazed by the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter. LifeStraw has really set a new standard with this one. The durability is fantastic, and frankly; it just looks super. I know looks aren't deciding with fashion, but it just needs to be addressed. I mean the price Walmart offered was and is by far the lowest so make sure to check them out when you are going to get one. As I have tested some alternatives before, I will say none come close to the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter. Just the flexibility alone crumbles all competition and the quality also seems to be top notch. The famous customer service of LifeStraw2 is always very happy to help if you have any kind of questions so if you ever run in to something with their products they'll be really supple with helping you find a solution. So just to recap; only positive things to say about the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter. Do read till the end tho because you there is a tiny surprise!

The list of pros of this LifeStraw Personal Water Filter is going to be much longer than the conslist and the description3 this site gives already lists them quite well. To quote just an excerpt: "

Bad to the Bone ~ Great

Love it ~ easy to operate and makes a ton of clean water ~

Improvement to Life Straw idea

Instead of laying down and drinking through a straw this allows you to fill the bag and drink standing up or while walking. You can use a standard water bottle instead of the bag that comes with it because it has standard threads. You can also attach a straw and use it exactly like a life straw. Finally, you can attach this to the drink tube from most bladders for use with unfiltered water. Sawyer filters, this one included, can be back flushed with clean water. Making Sawyer filters capable of lasting for years instead of one time use. I downgraded Durability because a long term filter should come in a stronger case. If you ever need this device, it would be disaster to find a connector snapped off.

Love this inexpensive low weight option

I purchased the Sawyer Mini for a week adventure in the wilderness. It works great for one or two people. For more than that I would probably get a Katadyn Hiker Water Filter. In my experience where streams were clear and lakes were clean, the Mini did a great job of filtering, albeit a bit slow as all water filters tend to be. I paired it up with a Platypus 2 liter bottle for filling my water bottles. By placing the Platypus on my thigh and squeezing it with a forearm my hands were free to hold a bottle and direct the filtered water... one man operation. You could also fill any old used empty water bottle from a gas station or grocery store, screw on the Mini and drink from the filter directly. Since I was filling for more than one person I avoided that option. You could also place it inline on a water bladder. But I like to know that either my water bottles or water bladder are always "clean" so I prefer to only dirty the Platypus and fill my other containers. I have used the iodine pills with the iodine neutralizers and they work good too, but this is a nice economical option if you don't want to mess with chemicals or wait for the chemicals to work. For backpackers the Mini and an empty Platypus bottle weight next to nothing. Walmart had the best price too.

Perfect size. Very compact and has amazing water flow for minimal squeezing! The bag isn't huge but the filter attaches to a 1 liter smart water bottle just fine [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Great filter, light and small.

Used this little filter on a backpacking trip into the High Uinta Wilderness. It was very light weight, and packed very small. We filtered stream and lake water with no ill effects and no chemical taste. In fact my son and I agreed it was the best tasting water we've ever had. My only complaint was the squeeze bag. 1 way to use this item is to fill the squeeze pouch with dirty water and either dispense into you bottle or drink directly from the filter. The bag/pouch is very durable and advertises "16 fl oz". The down side is that the bag is too durable. Even with a flowing stream we could only ever get the pouch to fill up half way, under 8oz of water at a time. It made refilling a 1 liter bottle take about 5 or 10min. The concept and use of the bag works great, it just wasn't as big as I would've liked. I do think, however, that Sawyer sells larger bags and before my next backpacking trip I'll probably buy one. I liked the way it worked very much, I just wanted more volume. Another alternative I might use, is to find a standard water bottle that has a neck/thread size that will fit (1liter smartwater comes to mind). That way I can just dunk it into the dirty water, screw on the filter and straw, and drink right from the filter. Overall, for the price, it is a VERY good deal. I will probably purchase a 2nd filter for my son and would highly recommend it. 4 out 5 stars due to the too rigid squeeze pouch. And to be honest, if I could give it 4.5 out 5, I would.
